No. Absence from Work Certificates can only be dated from the day of your consultation.
Yes. Pharmacists will use their professional judgement and may decline to issue a certificate if it’s not appropriate. If a pharmacist is unable or unwilling to issue you with a certificate, and you believe you are unfit for your work, you should seek the opinion of a medical practitioner.
Pharmacists are authorised to issue Absence from work certificates under the Fair Work Act 2009 however you should check with your employer before your consultation to ensure they accept certificates issued by a pharmacist.
Bring any relevant documents, such as prescriptions or previous certificates, and be ready to describe your situation clearly. If requesting a carer’s certificate, bring the person you’re caring for if possible.
